Politician Tim Scott is currently in charge of funding and backing candidates for the Senate, and he currently has a few names in mind to succeed the late Lindsey Graham, who passed away earlier this month. One figure has become well-known over the years for their work with Fox News. However, this wasn’t the only person Scott had in mind.
Sen. Lindsey Graham Passed Away Earlier This Month On July 11, 2026
Scott is a politician who currently serves as the senior United States senator from South Carolina. He has held this position since 2013.
Recently, Scott shared that he had two people in mind to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham. Graham, who represented South Carolina in the United States Senate, passed away on July 11 at the age of 71. He held the position from 2003 to his death in 2026.
Currently, Scott has been fielding calls from former and current members of Congress who are interested in the special election to replace the late politician. One figure Scott could be a good fit was Rep. Trey Gowdy.
Over the years, previously a politician, Gowdy has become known to many through his work with Fox News. This includes appearances on Fox News Primetime and Fox News Tonight. In 2021, he also became the host of Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy.
For his part, Scott spoke positively of Gowdy. As he expressed during an event remembering Graham, Scott shared, “You probably will be surprised to hear this, but I have an affinity for Trey Gowdy.”
“Trey would be an amazing senator for South Carolina. I’m not sure that, as he says, he could afford the alimony or the pay cut. But I would love to see him. He’s happily married, by the way.”
Tim Scott Also Suggested One Figure Close To Graham To Succeed Him
Scott continued, “I can’t think of a better person that, I think, represents the heart of South Carolina than Trey Gowdy.” However, there is one caveat: he might not want the position.
As Scott explained, “However, he’s been pretty clear that he is not looking for the job, asking for the job. I’m trying to get him interested in it, but we’ll see if that works out at all.”
However, there is another person that Scott could think would be a good successor to Graham. This is the late politician’s own sister, Sen. Darline Graham. As noted by Fox News, Scott shared, “I think the truth of the matter is that Darline has so far been off to a remarkable start. Why not her, would be my question.”
