Jennie confirmed a new solo single this week on Instagram. The song is called “Less than a Lover,” and it’s arriving this Friday, July 24, at 12 AM EDT and 1 PM KST.

The post was brief – a song title and a release window. The response was anything but quiet. The announcement pulled over 633,000 likes, with total engagement climbing above 668,000. For a text-only post with no audio preview or artwork attached, those numbers reflect serious anticipation from a large and active audience.

No preview clip has appeared. No credits or album art have surfaced. The title is the only thing anyone has to work with right now, and fans are already making the most of it. “Less than a Lover” has an emotionally direct quality. It’s a short phrase, and it lodges in your head. Some fans are betting on a ballad. Others are predicting something more rhythmic or experimental. It’s a genuinely fun debate to follow, especially this early in the week.

The dual-timezone listing in the announcement is worth a second look. Naming both 12 AM EDT and 1 PM KST puts fans in New York and fans in Seoul at the same starting line. K-pop releases have gotten increasingly careful about this kind of simultaneous coordination. With a fanbase as spread out as Jennie’s, it’s less of a courtesy and more of a necessity.

Her solo career has earned this kind of anticipation. She released “Solo” in 2018. It made her one of the first BLACKPINK members to debut a standalone single, and it charted across multiple countries. Her 2025 album “Ruby” took things further. It connected with listeners in pop and alternative spaces well beyond K-pop’s usual orbit. Some of those fans came to Jennie from a completely different direction.

BLACKPINK has been in a more open-ended phase lately. Each member has been carving out solo space on her own timeline, and Jennie has kept a high profile throughout. She’s a regular presence at major fashion weeks and has worked with global brands. Between group releases, her own creative output stays active. That visibility keeps her at the center of conversations in music and beyond. A new single keeps that momentum going.

“Less than a Lover” feels like a focused return to her musical center. The Friday release drops at midnight Eastern time. For listeners in Korea, that’s 1 PM on a Friday afternoon – a well-timed slot. Flagging both time zones in the announcement is a small, considered touch. It reads clearly to a fanbase spread across continents.

The post drew 633,000 likes with no song to hear yet. That’s a real indicator of demand. Most artists spend weeks on pre-release campaigns to reach that kind of signal. She posted a title, a date, and two time zones. The rest built itself.

“Less than a Lover” is out Friday, July 24. Set your alarms.
