A Google Home bug is randomly turning on smart lights

A strange bug in the Google Home iOS app is turning on smart lights whenever the app is opened, not long after a recent update rollout.

According to u/MST-1229 on the r/googlehome Subreddit, even launching the Google Home app on iOS can cause connected smart lighting devices (including dimmers, bulbs, and LED strips) to turn on automatically. Funnily enough, turning them all off manually is essentially useless, as they come on about five seconds later.

Interestingly, this problem appears to be limited to the iOS app, as users noted that the Android app and the Google Home web interface are operating as expected.

The issue isn’t only affecting one smart home provider. Reports are suggesting the glitch is triggering connected hardware from Govee, Philips Hue, Tapo, Kasa, and others. Users who are relying on hub bridges to connect their devices to other ecosystems are also experiencing the same glitch.

Although the original poster noted that everything seems to be working normally after some time, there appears to be no fix or workaround. Some users noted that unlinking their devices worked, while others noted unplugging their smart lighting seemed to do the trick. However, as mentioned, no fix seems to work for everyone.
