Kelly Ripa had been absent from Live with Kelly and Mark due to gum graft surgery, something she had delayed for five years. Was she negligent with her teeth, or did she have an underlying issue, possibly genetic? Kelly is now revealing the shocking reason why she had to undergo this surgery, and it is nothing that anyone would have expected. Keep reading for more on what the mother of three revealed.
Kelly Ripa Misses 2 Weeks Of Work
When Kelly Ripa was missing from Live with Kelly and Mark, viewers wondered where she was and if she was okay. That was when her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos revealed that she had undergone gum graft surgery. It was incredibly painful, and she was one to take pain like a champ. Moreover, she had to stay silent until she was healed, which was no easy task for someone who makes a living off of chatting. Fortunately, a handful of celebrities and musicians filled in amid her absence.
Now, the 55-year-old is revealing what led to her surgery, and it is actually quite shocking. As it turned out, she was an overbrusher. The former soap star brushed her teeth too much, which caused her gum problems. She opened up about all of this on the latest episode of her podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera:
“I brush my teeth too much. It’s a good-bad habit. But I’ve caused gum recession down here specifically, and so they have gotta re-gum my gums.”
Now, she did record her pod before having the surgery, so although she knew it would be painful and that she would be down, she had no idea for how long. Kelly Ripa shared that she knew she would not be able to speak for ten days. However, she was already stressing over that fact. Additionally, she was aware that she had no more time to spare when it came to the surgery. Kelly told her guest Michelle Buteau this:
“Before you praise me, I was supposed to do it five years ago. But now, just so you know, the doctor was like, ‘Now, you don’t have the luxury of time.’”
Fans Are Stunned
After learning why Kelly Ripa had to undergo this surgery, fans and followers were stunned. They had never heard of brushing too much and almost did not believe what she was saying. Some also questioned taking so much time off from work. They noted that under normal circumstances, someone could not take two weeks off as she did. Of course, some were incredibly supportive and reminded followers that everyone’s health problems are different.
