Howard Stern’s radio show has seen a reduced schedule and layoffs over the past few months. Since then, insiders have been weighing in on the situation. Reportedly, some claim that this could mark the show’s end on the horizon.
The Howard Stern Show Switched To SiriusXM In 2006
Stern is known to many for his namesake radio show, The Howard Stern Show. Originally running on terrestrial radio from 1986 to 2005, Stern switched to SiriusXM, starting in 2006.
Outside of radio, Stern has often appeared in other forms of media. In the world of reality television, he served as a judge on America’s Got Talent from 2012 to 2015.
As previously reported, insiders have been weighing in on the culture at Stern’s show, especially as the show has faced layoffs. Recently, however, some sources alleged that this could be a sign of things coming to an end.
At this time, Stern’s most current contract is set to expire in 2028. Speaking with The U.S. Sun, one source alleged, “When Stern signed on to his five-year contract in 2020, it made sense with his staff feeling like they had more work to do, but the show really limped to this last contract.”
Allegedly, some staffers felt that the show should have ended with the end of last year. The source continued, “The show was not sustainable the way it’s been. There is so much content Howard wasn’t getting to because he was only doing two days a week. Now that it’s going down to one, it’s clear it’s all just winding down.”
Stern Hosts Two SiriusXM Channels, But Sources Say That The Show’s Reduced Schedule Could Change That
Reportedly, during a recent Zoom call, show execs told staffers that Stern would only be doing one live show a week. Staff also faced a second round of layoffs in just six months. That said, the insider shared that fans would expect more consistency from Stern.
The source shared, “I’m hearing you won’t see a lot of dark weeks because he’s only doing one day a week. Since he’s doing so few shows, for example, maybe he will only take a few weeks in the summer instead of all summer. There should be fewer full weeks of live show blackouts.”

Stern currently has two dedicated SiriusXM channels. Howard 100 hosts live broadcasts and new material, while Howard 101 hosts classic interviews. The insider noted, “A lot [of] the staff who were laid off in the first round worked for his 101 channel. Now, since they gutted the team, it seems more than likely that Sirius will be keeping the main Howard 100 channel and ultimately parting ways with 101.” However, with less content with the reduced schedule, Howard 100 could soon host more archival material.
