Al Roker celebrated 30 years with the Today Show in January. The show went all out with gifts, special guests, and heartfelt tributes. The beloved weatherman turned 72 this week. However, if his co-hosts have their way, it might be his last. They gave him a deadly birthday gift. Keep reading for all the details on the shocking gift.
Today Co-Hosts Go Too Far With Deadly Birthday Gift
Craig Melvin had a scary ordeal in July when an intruder got past security and confronted him backstage. The intruder hurled racist slurs and asked for Al Roker. Luckily, the weatherman was in the broadcasting studio with Dylan Dreyer at the time. The intruder was later arrested on multiple charges.
Things are back to normal on the Today Show and that means celebrating Al Roker’s birthday. The hosts are notorious for their hysterical and unexpected gifts. When Dylan Dreyer turned 45 in early August, Craig Melvin presented the golf lover with golf balls bearing his and Al Roker’s faces. On Thursday, August 20, it was Al Roker’s turn to receive a shocking gift.
Dylan Dreyer revealed that the weatherman shares his birthday with a fitting national holiday. “Al, it’s actually incredible that your birthday is Aug. 20 because you know what today is also? It’s National Bacon Lover’s Day. So since we know how much you love bacon, we made you something that sizzles,” she told him.
A staff member rolled in a bacon bouquet. Dylan Dreyer revealed that the production team removed real roses from their stems and replaced the roses with bacon for the tasty treat. “This bud’s for you! That’s fantastic,” Al Roker said as he munched on one of the bacon roses.

Craig Melvin teased Al Roker that the birthday present could be deadly. “Here’s the thing, you eat all that you’re not going to make it to 73,” he said while Dylan Dreyer joked, “Here, have more!”
Al Roker Shares Birthday Plans
Al Roker downed the bacon rose down with a special morning cocktail called the Paper Plane. While he very much enjoyed the gifts from his co-hosts, he had a real celebration planned for after work.
“We’re going to dinner tonight with some family and friends,” he told his co-hosts. Craig Melvin asked if Al Roker’s milestone birthday made him look back on his life. “Yeah, when I look back, I see a lot of jerks,” the weatherman quipped.
Al Roker is in his 70s, but one young fan made his day during an interaction outside the studio. “There was a little boy out there. Mom asked, ‘How old do you think he is?’ He said, ‘53,’” Al Roker shared. “I said, ‘I don’t know where that number came from, but I’ll take it!’”
Happy birthday and many more to the beloved weatherman!
