What a difference a weekend can make.
For the second straight day, Sentinels overwhelmed their opponent at the League Championship Series Summer Split on Sunday, taking down Disguised 2-0. After entering the weekend among the bottom four teams in the standings at 2-2, Sentinels end it in second place in the standings with two weeks remaining.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. The seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams play each other once in a best-of-three match — will set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season will advance to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams will advance to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings are eliminated.
The playoffs, which run Sept. 12 through Oct. 4, are best-of-five and double elimination. The top three teams will advance to the World Championship, played in New York, Los Angeles and Allen, Texas, from Oct. 15 through Nov. 14.
Sentinels got things started Sunday with 32- and 28-minute wins, both times on blue. Isaac “DARKWINGS” Chou and South Korea’s Cho “Rahel” Min-seong led the way with 10 kills each in the victory. Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun posted 28 assists for Sentinels.
South Korean Oh “Callme” Ji-hoon led Disguised with a 4-7-4 kill-death-assist ratio.
In the second match of the day, FlyQuest rebounded from Saturday’s loss to Sentinels with a sweep of their own, beating Dignitas in 28 minutes on red and in 30 minutes on blue. Canadian Fahad “Massu” Abdulmalek was the star, posting a 15-3-18 K-D-A in the win. Michael “Cryogen” Luu of Vietnam posted 30 assists for FlyQuest.
Noah “Denathor” Erikson of the United States led Dignitas with 10 kills.
The sixth of seven weeks of group play begins on Saturday.
