Back in 2021, the film Rust made headlines while still in production after the tragic fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. At the time, media attention revolved around actor Alec Baldwin, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter, which was later dismissed. Recently, Baldwin spoke about the effects the incident had on him, including his health.
Alec Baldwin Recently Opened Up About The Shooting During A Recent Podcast Appearance
Baldwin is an actor and film producer with a career that has been active since the 1980s. He is also a member of the Baldwin family, which is made up of a number of professional performers.
In 2021, Baldwin became the subject of media attention when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed after Baldwin accidentally discharged a live round on the set of Rust. Baldwin had been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
These charges, however, were dismissed with prejudice by a trial judge. AT the time, the judge had ruled that prosecutors sat on evidence that would have explained how live ammunition was brought to the set.
Recently, Baldwin opened up about the story during a recent interview. The actor had sat down with The Hollywood Reporter Awards Chatter podcast.
Baldwin admitted that what happened kept him from wanting to leave his house. He shared, “I wound up staying home a lot. I was home with my kids for three-and-a-half years — I hardly worked at all… I don’t want to work anymore.” He added, “I want to retire and stay home with my kids.”

The actor also shared that finishing the film was challenging for him. Suggesting that it was out of his hands, he noted, “We had to go back and finish the movie Rust in Montana as a component of the settlement with her husband.” He later claimed, “I was so sick. I mean, we had to finish. We gave him the movie and said, ‘You sell it and do whatever you want with it.’”
The Trial Was Previously The Focus Of Episodes Of The Reality Series, The Baldwins
The actor ultimately claimed, “It impacted me in every way — financially, career-wise, my wife, my kids, my health.” On the subject of his health, he added, “I was really sick — I had a nerve condition that you get when you take blood pressure medication, orthostatic hypotension, where you black out.”
Baldwin continued to talk about the effects the incident had on his health. After describing blackouts and a period where he was in “bed for eight days,” he claimed he needed to go to therapy for two weeks.

Upon finishing the film, Baldwin felt he was in an awkward position working, noting, “I had to get up on a horse and go back there to Montana to finish the film, or they were going to sue the s— out of me. So I make it — I get there, and I don’t give the performance I want to give because I’m sick, but I did the best I could.”
Viewers previously saw Alec and his family deal with the aftermath of the shooting on the reality series, The Baldwins. This TLC series, which focused on the trial in the very first episode, premiered on February 23, 2025.
