Keep reading for more details on what she had to say and how it was received.
Amy Duggar Slammed For Tone Deaf Remarks
Duggar followers are over Amy Duggar and her constant need to insert herself into every family situation. She has issues with her cousins and the problems that they have, which is well known. Yet, she cannot seem to keep quiet, and people are done with her. Recently, Amy met with Joe Duggar’s teenage victim, whom he allegedly sexually assaulted. She praised her for being so brave and strong, speaking her truth publicly, which is extremely admirable.
However, Amy also added something about the victim getting counseling so that she could “clear her conscience.” The comment has followers up in arms because they cannot believe that the victim should ever have to clear her conscience because she did nothing wrong:
“You know, I told her about counseling and I told her about how important that [it] is to go and to talk [about] it out loud and to, you know, clear her conscience.”
The moment that Amy Duggar said that, listeners and followers were stunned. They could not understand why those words would come out of her mouth. Moreover, she praised the girl and gave her so much positive encouragement. Yet, she also added that she believes the alleged victim may have been “shamed” into believing that the assault “is her fault.”
Listeners Are Shocked By Amy’s Reaction
Those who heard Amy Duggar on The Sara Fraser Show were blown away by her comments. They were appalled that she would act like she was supportive of the alleged victim. Then, she would, in some ways, victim-blame by saying she needed to find a way to “clear her conscience.” Immediately, the comments flowed in, and many felt it was time that Amy stopped speaking. Others thought maybe she should think before she opened her mouth:
- Why would you tell a child to clear their conscience of something that they had no wrong doing in?? Stop confusing this poor girl
- Either she misspoke and meant clear her mind or she was referring to the fact that victims are blamed in that cult and the girl needs to hear from a professional counselor that she has zero blame. I’ve heard that victims frequently feel to blame and in this situation, the victim will be told that it is her fault.
