Anderson Cooper recently made his departure from 60 Minutes earlier this year. However, news has come out that he could find himself working with CBS’ editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, all over again, pending a possible CNN merger. An insider recently weighed in on the situation.
Anderson Cooper Signed Off From CBS News’ 60 Minutes This Past May
Cooper is known for his work with CNN. In particular, he has hosted his namesake series, Anderson Cooper 360°, since 2003.
In addition, Cooper served as a correspondent for 60 Minutes, which is produced by CBS News. However, he announced his exit from the program earlier this year, giving his final sign-off on May 17, 2026. At the time, he shared that it was to spend more time with his family. However, he would keep his position with CNN.
Yet, if Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery goes through, Paramount’s CBS News division would be corporate siblings with WBD’s CNN news organization. This means Cooper could once again work with Bari Weiss, who was previously installed as the editor-in-chief of CBS News back in October.
In a new report about CNN’s staff, The New York Times cited two sources that claimed Cooper told CNN colleagues that he doesn’t want to work with Weiss. However, a spokeswoman for Cooper also declined to comment on the story.
As previously reported, Weiss could possibly be put in charge of CNN. Alternatively, she could also be paired with a more experienced TV executive.
Another Figure Has Also Shared Concern About CNN’s Current Chief Executive Being Replaced
However, other figures might not be happy to see Mark Thompson, CNN’s current chief executive, get replaced. Speaking with The New York Times, tech journalist Kara Swisher shared that she wouldn’t continue working for CNN if Thompson is replaced. She shared, “So far, there’s nothing I’ve seen that indicates that they’re serious about creating a modern digital news organization.”
Throughout this time, viewers have seen multiple changes occur at CBS News since the installation of Weiss. In particular, various figures, in addition to Cooper himself, have recently made their exit from 60 Minutes. Such figures, many of whom saw their contracts with CBS News go unrenewed, also include Scott Pelley, Sharyn Alfonsi, Tanya Simon, and Cecilia Vega.

As previously reported, inside sources shared mixed feelings over Weiss’ reaction to Cooper’s own exit from 60 Minutes. While some sources suggested that he had been forced out, others claimed that Weiss offered a substantial amount of money to convince him to stay on.
