Exclusive reports have confirmed that Apex director Baltasar Kormákur and star Charlize Theron will again team up on another project following the success of the Netflix thriller. Kormákur and Theron will reportedly come under Universal Pictures on a feature titled Six Clean Kills, adapted for the big screen from an unpublished novel by author Stan Parish, who is set to rework his novel into the film’s script.
Theron and Kormákur will share production credits on the project, with plot details and additional stars yet to be released, with Theron producing for a deal with Universal, known as a Secret Menu first-look deal and Kormákur for Blueeyes Productions. Additional production will be handled by AJ Dix and Beth Kono, with Parish serving as executive producer.
The duo’s first film, Apex, is a survival action thriller which hit Netflix on 24th April. The film focused on a passionate rock climber, played by Theron, being hunted in the Australian wild by a cannibal practitioner five months after her boyfriend’s tragic death during a climbing trip. Taron Egerton and Eric Bana were additional stars, alongside Matt Whelan, Aaron Pedersen and Rob Carlton.
The film went on to reach a 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 98 critics, as well as a Metacritic score of 58 out of 100 from 22 critics. Upon its streaming debut, Apex also hit the global English film list as the number one release, holding the spot for two weeks and accumulating 40.8 million viewers during the 14 days.
Theron’s recent film credits also include Victoria Mahoney’s superhero film The Old Guard 2, Louis Letterrier’s Fast X and Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She is also due to appear in Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic adaptation, The Odyssey and David Weil’s directorial debut thriller Tyrant.
Meanwhile, Kormákur’s debut was the 1996 film Go LazyTown, which he followed with releases such as 2002’s The Sea, 2005’s A Little Trip to Heaven and 2006’s Jar City. Most recently, the Icelandic director has been credited on Touch and is also set to release the upcoming Netflix film, The Big Fix, starring Riz Ahmed and Mark Wahlberg in a story about a former Interpol officer discovering a global match-fixing operation at FIFA. The film will be released next year.
