Apple is preparing to release a second-generation iPhone Air model in spring 2027, according to Bloomberg.
Per the publication, the updated phone, codenamed V62, will add a second rear camera for ultrawide-angle photography. This would join the iPhone Air’s existing single 48MP rear camera. Notably, Bloomberg mentions, per sources, that customers’ biggest complaint about the Air is its single-camera setup.
Additionally, Bloomberg reports that Apple is working to improve battery life with the new iPhone Air, although it’s unclear whether that would come in the form of larger pack — which clashes with the ultra-thin design of the phone — or other efficiency gains.
The first iPhone Air debuted in September 2025 alongside the iPhone 17 lineup, so this second iteration would be coming over a year later. It should also be noted that a new iPhone Air model would join Apple’s rumoured varied upcoming iPhone slate.
For months, we’ve heard that Apple is planning to break up its iPhone release schedule to focus on higher-end models during its usual September launch window. This means that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and long-rumoured iPhone Fold would debut this fall, while the lower-end iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and this his reported iPhone Air 2 would drop in the spring.
It’s a notable pivot from Apple, which has traditionally debuted all of its flagship phones in the fall, with the occasional “SE” or “E” model coming the following spring to offer a more affordable alternative. Only time will tell how it will pay off.
