The Australia tour of Bangladesh 2026 is officially underway with high stakes and fresh strategic realignments. Cricket Australia (CA) has officially confirmed its traveling contingent for the highly anticipated multi-format bilateral tour, signalling both a transition phase and a rigorous test of bench strength for the visitors. The standard subcontinental challenges of spin-friendly wickets, heavy humidity, and vocal local support await the Australian side as they look to assert dominance early in the tour.

This crucial tour commences with a three-match One Day International (ODI) series that is vital for both teams to fine-tune their combinations in the 50-over format. According to the official schedule, the three high-octane ODI clashes will be held sequentially on June 9, June 11, and June 14, 2026. In an exciting developmental move for local cricket enthusiasts, all three fixtures are slated to take place at the iconic Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Following the conclusion of the 50-over matches, the teams will shift focus to a shorter format before preparing for the longer, tactical battles of a two-match Test series later in August.

Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh absent from Australia’s Bangladesh ODI series squad

In a major development that has sent ripples through the cricketing fraternity, Cricket Australia’s roster announcement came with a few glaring omissions. Much to the surprise of fans and pundits globally, marquee explosive stars Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head have not been included in the visiting squad for this opening leg. Their absence strips the top order of significant experience and boundary-hitting prowess, changing the tactical complexion of the upcoming matches.

Furthermore, the selection panel confirmed that Head will also be missing the subsequent T20I series against Bangladesh, with the board yet to announce a formal replacement for the shortest format. On the bowling front, young leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha misses out. To replace Sangha, off-spinner Todd Murphy has been drafted into the squad. Despite having famously played Test cricket for Australia, most notably during the intense 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India, Murphy will now aim to get his very first taste of limited-overs international cricket on what are expected to be highly responsive pitches.

Amidst these massive adjustments, there has been much chatter around the inclusion of Oliver Peake. The promising young talent will be getting another valuable shot in ODI cricket to cement his place as a reliable middle-order anchor for future global campaigns.

    Australia announces Bangladesh ODI squad

Immediately following the official roster release, national selector Tony Dodemaide took center stage to provide the necessary clarity regarding the notable absentees. Addressing the media, Dodemaide revealed that Marsh is completely out of the ODI series due to ongoing rehabilitation, as he is yet to return to full fitness from a lingering ankle injury. As for the dynamic opener Head, while he was initially pencilled into the touring blueprints, he has since been excluded from both white-ball legs after being granted a personal leave window.

“We were hopeful Mitch Marsh would be available for the Bangladesh ODI series however he is still returning to full fitness from an ankle injury. Mitch will join the group in Dhaka and begin preparations for the T20I Series,” Dodemaide was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

Explaining the situation surrounding Head, Dodemaide added: “Travis was initially selected in the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour but has subsequently been granted personal leave for both. We look forward to seeing him again for the top end Test Series against Bangladesh.”

In the absence of established senior leaders, the captaincy armband has been handed to wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis, who will guide a dynamic, youthful squad featuring reliable contributors like Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, and spin spearhead Adam Zampa.

Australia Squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Josh Inglis (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Todd Murphy, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Adam Zampa.
