Good Morning America has consistently beaten out CBS and NBC’s morning news programs. But the Today Show and CBS Mornings could overtake GMA if its three favorite anchors remain MIA. Keep reading to find out more on the surprising host shakeup as fans wonder where Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan are.
Beloved GMA Hosts MIA Amid Network Shakeup
CBS isn’t the only network slashing budgets by laying off employees. Deadline reported that the Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC and other networks, just made cuts at ESPN, National Geographic and more. ESPN laid off popular sports analysts Ryan Clark, Cam Newton, and Karl Ravech. No one is safe.
Good Morning America fans noticed that the main three hosts – Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan – rarely appear on the show together. In fact, Hello! magazine reported the three haven’t shared the screen since July 16.
Robin Roberts has been MIA since July 17. Michael Strahan’s last appearance was on July 21. Rebecca Jarvis, Whit Johnson and Rachel Scott filled in on July 22. Fans are wondering – where have all the regular hosts gone?
Michael Strahan mysteriously went absent in June around the time of the New York Knicks’ NBA championship bid. He did post on social media at the time, rooting for the team. When he eventually returned to GMA, Michael Strahan shut down a segment before it could leave his co-hosts in tears. He never did explain his absence in June or his more recent absences.
Robin Roberts revealed an exciting new project in June that took her out of the country. She went to Africa to oversee the filming of a new Lifetime movie produced by her Rock’n Robin production company.

Angel in the Rubble is a true story of the last survivor pulled out of the rubble on September 11, 2001. Former talk show host Sherri Shepherd stars in the Lifetime movie based on the survivor’s memoir. It’s scheduled to premiere in September 2026 as part of the network’s remembrance on the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
George Stephanopoulos Enjoys Sweet Family Time
George Stephanopoulos has been a familiar face on GMA since 2009. The chemistry between the three main hosts is unmatched. But everyone needs a break, even news anchors. Many networks give the anchors vacation time during the summer to spend time with their families. That seems to be exactly what George Stephanopoulos did during his unexplained absence.
His wife of 25 years, author Ali Wentworth, took to social media to share a snapshot from the Hamptons staycation. The couple own property in the Hamptons and have spent summers there for years. Ali Wentworth’s photo revealed that they enjoy playing board games.
“Please don’t tell George I posted this… but Rummikub is the only thing I continually beat him at,” she joked in the caption. Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan are enjoying their summer vacations.
