Many were first introduced to Selleck after playing the eponymous private investigator Magnum, P.I. from 1980 to 1988. Following this, he starred as the namesake character in the Jesse Stone movies.
Following this, in 2010, Selleck took on the role of NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods. He would continue to portray the character for over a decade, with the series coming to an end in 2024.
Since the end of the series, fans have been wondering what Selleck will do next, whether by appearing on the Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue, or a return of the Jesse Stone movies. However, an insider recently weighed in on what could be next. Speaking with Closer Weekly, an inside source shared that Selleck is keeping busy “trying to land a network TV gig.”
The insider continued, “He’s dying to be the center of a new show. Tom still has the energy and the gravitas to lead a series.”
The Inside Source Felt That Selleck Is Especially Looking To Headline Another Show On The Network That Defined His Career
The two shows that defined Selleck’s career, Magnum, P.I. and Blue Bloods, both aired on CBS. According to the source, he has been reaching out to old connections at the network to find a new project. They continued, “He’s made it clear to the bosses at CBS to send any and all offers his way.”
Ultimately, the insider felt that the important thing was finding the role that was a good fit for him. They shared, “Tom has acted opposite enough older performers to know there’s always plenty of work in Hollywood for people his age — it’s just about finding material that is the perfect fit for him.”
As previously reported, Donnie Wahlberg has attempted to bring Selleck onto Boston Blue. However, no opportunities have come up as of yet. The source added, “Tom’s hoping for a miracle. At heart, he’s still that young kid who grew up in Los Angeles, footsteps from the studios, dreaming of working in TV and movies. His will to grab millions of eyeballs just never went away.”
Of course, even if he’s not acting, Selleck can find a place in television. Back in May, it was announced that he would host, narrate, and executive produce a History Channel documentary series called Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck.
