The Toronto Blue Jays inconsistent season continued on Wednesday evening at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California. The Blue Jays improved to .500 on their latest road trip with an impressive 10-0 win over the San Francisco Giants.
Yes, the Blue Jays bats came alive, but the biggest story of the game was the performance of starting pitcher Dylan Cease. The righthander only gave up one hit in eight innings of work, and did not give up a base hit until the beginning of the ninth inning. Cease had 11 strikeouts and three walks, and threw 118 pitches of which 81 pitches were strikes.
This was the second straight outing that Cease did not give up an earned run. He threw seven shutout innings on Friday in a 2-0 Blue Jays win over the Seattle Mariners.
Offensively, the Blue Jays had three home runs. They came from third baseman Kazuma Okamoto (who hit a first inning grand slam), Canadian first baseman Vladimir Guerrero of Montreal, Quebec and George Springer.
In other Blue Jays news, Guerrero Jr., second baseman Ernie Clement, Cease, and closer Louis Varland have been selected to the All-Star Game. Guerrero Jr. is not playing due to a back injury, while Clement will be the starting American League second baseman.
