    Charity Williams (Rugby Canada)

Team Canada won the bronze medal on Sunday in the 2026 Women’s Rugby Sevens Grand Finals in Bordeaux, France. This was Canada’s second medal during the Women’s Rugby Sevens Series season. Canada won a bronze medal in Singapore on February 1. In the two events where Canada finished third, they were behind Australia and New Zealand. In Singapore, New Zealand won gold and Australia won silver. In Bordeaux, Australia won gold and New Zealand won silver.

In the Rugby Sevens Grand Finals in France, Canada finished Pool C with a record of two wins and one loss. Canada won their first two games of the tournament on Friday. They first defeated Spain 14-12 and then defeated Great Britain 35-14. In Canada’s win over Spain, Canadian Olympic silver medalist Charity Williams of Toronto, Ontario and Taylor Perry of Oakville, Ontario scored tries. In Canada’s win over Great Britain, Canada had three tries from Williams, and two tries from Canadian Olympic silver medalist Asia Hogan-Rochester of Toronto.

After a 33-22 loss to the United States to complete Pool C on Saturday, Canada defeated Fiji 29-14 in the quarterfinals. Canada had three tries from Savannah Bauder of North Vancouver, British Columbia, and one try each from Pamphinette Buisa of Gatineau, Quebec and Carmen Izyk of Blackie, Alberta. Then after Canada lost 19-17 to New Zealand in Sunday’s semifinals, Canada beat the United States 21-19 in the bronze medal game. Williams had two tries and Hogan-Rochester had one try.

Williams and Hogan-Rochester won a silver medal for Canada in women’s rugby sevens at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The bronze medal for Canada in Bourdeaux, will give the Canadian women’s rugby sevens team confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
