    Canadian skeleton star Jane Channell retires at age 37

    Canadian skeleton star Jane Channell of North Vancouver, British Columbia retired at the age of 37 according to ibsf.org on Tuesday. Channell won the silver medal in the mixed team skeleton competition at the 2020 International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation World Championships in Altenberg, Germany, was third in the 2016 World Cup women’s skeleton standings, and won four World Cup medals (two silver medals and two bronze medals).

    Channell’s silver medal at the 2020 IBSF World Championships came in mixed skeleton, and she finished in second by the slimmest of margins. Channell teamed up with Dave Greszczyszyn of Brampton, Ontario for a second place time of 1:55.40. Jacqueline Lolling and Alexander Glassner of Germany won the gold medal with a time of 1:55.39, and Valentina Margaglio and Mattia Gaspari of Italy won the bronze medal with a time of 1:55.82. Channel and Greszczyszyn reached the podium by 0.55 seconds. Madelaine Smith and Matt Weston of Great Britain had a fourth place time of 1:55.95.

    When it came to Channell’s World Cup success, she won her silver medals in Park City, Utah on January 16, 2016, and then in Whistler, British Columbia on November 24, 2017. Channell’s World Cup bronze medals were in Winterberg, Germany on December 4, 2015. and in Konigssee, Germany on January 24, 2020. Channell also represented Canada at the last three Olympic Winter Games.
