Since Scott Pelley has lost his position at 60 Minutes, various figures in the media have spoken out about the story. Recently, another CBS alum has weighed in on the story. This was Tony Dokoupil, who shared a tribute to Pelley during a recent broadcast.
Both Scott Pelley & Tony Dokoupil Have Been Anchors On CBS Evening News
Pelley was known to many as a correspondent for CBS’ 60 Minutes. In addition, he also served as the CBS Evening News‘ anchor and managing editor from 2011 to 2017.
On June 2, news had come out that Pelley was fired by CBS News. This came out following his criticizing both editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and new 60 Minutes executive producer Nick Bilton at a staff meeting. He had been with the network since 1989.
On June 3, another CBS alum had a few kind words for Pelley during the nightly broadcast. This was Tony Dokoupil, the current anchor of CBS Evening News. Toward the middle of his show, Dokoupil covered the firing of his predecessor. He then praised his legacy on the network.
Tony Dokoupil Shared Clips Of Pelley’s Time On The Program During The Segment
Dokoupil shared, “When I started at CBS, Scott Pelley was in this very chair still doing a dozen stories a year for 60 Minutes. And amid all of that, meeting every new correspondent to share his view of the mission here.”
Dokoupil then touched on what he thought were Pelley’s virtues when it came to journalism. He continued, “He believed Freedom of the Press, to quote [James] Madison, was the right that guaranteed all the others and that the stakes are always that high. And that if you made it to CBS News, you were among the best in the world. He worked every single day to live up to that standard.”

This was followed by clips of Pelley during his own time with the show. It was noted that Pelley also changed the program’s logo during his time as anchor. Omitting his own name, he wrote the logo as “CBS Evening News with All of Us.” The segment ended with Dokoupil expressing his gratitude toward Pelley, sharing, “Well, Scott, from all of us, thank you.”
As previously reported, this comes out as various figures have been making their departure from 60 Minutes. In addition to the dismissal of executive producer Tanya Simon, as well as correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, viewers also recently saw Anderson Cooper announce his exit earlier this year.
