Filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, otherwise known as the Daniels, are back with a new film at Universal. They are attached to write and direct. Charles Melton is the latest actor tipped to be joining Matt Damon (the Bourne franchise, Oppenheimer) and Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy) on the yet untitled project.
The Daniels, alongside Jonathan Wang, will produce through their company Playground, which has a deal with Universal. Executive VP Production Development Sara Scott and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee this project.
The Daniels won Best Picture at the 2023 Oscars with their 2022 action/sci-fi movie Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. Kwan and Wang recently produced The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist from Universal’s specialty studio Focus Features.
Melton first graced our screens on the CW Network television series Riverdale, which ran from 2017 to 2023. More recently, he appeared in Beef, alongside Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Cailee Spaeny. He is also starring in Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming Her Private Hell, which premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
While details for this project remain under wraps, filming will begin this summer in Los Angeles, with the film set for cinematic release in November 2027.
