Charlie Kawas is set to join HGTV with a new show, Botched Homes. With the show’s debut right around the corner, Kawas opened up about what it was like working on the show and what viewers can expect. In an emotional share, Kawas revealed that he endured a horrifying health issue just months into filming for the show’s first season.

Charlie Kawas’ Botched Homes Is Set To Premiere On September 2, 2026

Kawas is a general contractor and Golden Hammer Award-winning carpenter. He owns and operates CK Construction, which specializes in commercial and residential construction services, out of Jupiter, Florida.

Kawas is set to join the HGTV family with the new series, Botched Homes. This show will see him help rescue and renovate South Florida home renovation projects.

Ahead of the series’ September 2 premiere, Kawas spoke about the passion he puts into his construction projects. The no-nonsense pro took pride in his work, sharing, “The fact that I can help people with what I’m good at is great. You’re finding a lot of people out there who have no proper guidance. They’ll invest money into their home with another contractor — or someone acting as a contractor — and they get left with a disaster: poor quality, unfinished work, unsafe conditions.”

However, Kawas shared that he learned devastating news a mere six months into filming for the first season. Back in April, he received a testicular cancer diagnosis. At the time, he was dealing with back pain, even while working on a renovation project, which soon sent him to the emergency room. He learned about the tumor after a few nights in the hospital, which involved multiple tests.

Kawas Ultimately Felt It Was Important To Share His Journey On The Show, Saying ‘This Is Reality’

Kawas recalled, “The doctor came in. He goes, ‘I have some terrible news.’ I said, ‘Okay.’ He goes, ‘You were diagnosed with testicular cancer.’ I said, ‘Alright, well, what do we do now?’” He added, “It took me by surprise. It caught me off guard.”

Doctors recommended immediate chemotherapy treatments. At the time, Kawas was handling five different renovation projects. He shared, “I’m the guy on the ladder, on the scaffold, doing the work, dealing with the clients. So how do you just remove the main guy to go take care of treatment? I wasn’t ready for it. It was probably the worst possible time it could have happened.”

Ultimately, Kawas decided it was important to move forward with his clients’ work, though not without a few delays. He also wanted to keep filming the show, which continued until late August.

Kawas shared, “These homeowners put trust in us and we all worked so hard doing this, so I don’t want to stop. I want to continue the process… filming… this journey that we’re on and include the cancer into the show.”

Ultimately, Kawas also decided it was more the best to even showcase his story on the show. He expressed, “This is reality . . . Let’s include it and let the world know that when you get terrible news like I did, that doesn’t mean you stop everything.”
