Tragically, Deadliest Catch‘s Todd Meadows lost his life earlier this year while working at sea. With the show returning for its next season, it recently paid tribute to its fallen crew member. Since then, another deckhand has also shed some light on Meadows’ last moments.
Deadliest Catch Alum Todd Meadows Lost His Life Back In February
Todd Meadows served as a deckhand on Captain Rick Shelford‘s Aleutian Lady boat. Tragically, he died in February while working on the ship.
Meadows was only 25 years old at the time of his death. Recently, as the show returned for Season 22, a tribute was aired to honor the fallen crew member.
Viewers saw footage of Todd as he spoke to the camera. As he shared, “It’s been one of my dreams and goals to make it up here. I’ve been to Alaska before, but never to fish, just to vacation and hang out with family. Everything up here that I’ve experienced so far is just so much bigger. Everything’s scaled up. It smells different, feels different.”
During The Tribute, Meadows Discussed The Importance Of Following & Working Towards ‘Your Dreams & Goals’
Meadows noted that there was a lot of “risk” when it came to his line of work. However, he added, “I just want my kids to know that I want them to work towards your dreams and goals, don’t let anything slow you down.”
Meadows continued, “It’s going to be fun. I’m just fortunate that I fell in love with it.” The segment then ended with an image of Todd with the words, “In Memory of Todd Meadows 2000-2026.”

As noted by TV Insider, it was unlikely that the incident would be documented on the show, as the season was filmed in the fall of 2025, months before his death. As previously reported, Todd’s family had previously expressed concern over footage of the incident appearing on the show.
Speaking with Page Six, fellow deckhand John Green III also shared that Todd was “actually inside” one of the pots used to catch crabs when he died. He continued, “He was a fighter because he made it out of that pot.” However, his body was “lifeless,” and further rescue efforts proved unsuccessful. According to the outlet, Meadows’ cause of death was later confirmed as “drowning with probable hypothermia” and “submersion of body in cold water.”
The tribute has also appeared on Deadliest Catch‘s official YouTube and Instagram accounts. Thanks to this, fans have also been able to express their sympathies toward Meadows. Some comments included:
