Texas Super Kings (TSK) returned to winning ways with a clinical all-round performance as they defeated San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) by 22 runs in the Oakland leg of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026. After posting a competitive total on a challenging surface, the Super Kings bowlers dominated proceedings to register their second victory of the campaign.
Donovan Ferreira powers Texas Super Kings to fighting total
After being asked to bat first, Texas Super Kings managed 161/8 in their allotted 20 overs, with Donovan Ferreira producing a crucial innings under pressure. The Super Kings made a strong start through captain Faf du Plessis and Saiteja Mukkamalla, who stitched together a 72-run opening partnership and laid the foundation for a substantial total. Du Plessis scored 40 runs, while Mukkamalla contributed a valuable 36. However, San Francisco fought back impressively in the middle overs, reducing Texas Super Kings from 72 without loss to 96/5 and threatening to restrict them to a below-par score.
Ferreira then stepped up when his side needed him most. The explosive South African batter smashed 45 runs off just 28 deliveries and cleared the boundary four times. His aggressive strokeplay completely changed the momentum of the innings and helped Texas Super Kings push beyond the 160-run mark. Wiaan Mulder supported him during a useful partnership, while the lower order chipped in with important runs late in the innings. For the Unicorns, Brody Couch and Hassan Khan claimed two wickets each, while the bowlers did well to slow down the scoring rate during the middle phase.
Amshi de Silva dismantles San Francisco Unicorns’ batting lineup
Chasing 162, San Francisco Unicorns never managed to build any significant momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals throughout the innings. The chase got off to the worst possible start when Finn Allen departed early, with Amshi de Silva striking in the powerplay. Matt Short attempted to stabilize the innings and top-scored with 28 runs, while Lhuan-dre Pretorius briefly looked threatening during a quick partnership. However, the Unicorns lost three wickets inside the first six overs and struggled to recover from the early damage.
De Silva produced the defining spell of the match, removing key batters and finishing with outstanding figures of 4/28. His wickets of Pretorius and Connor Esterhuizen further dented the chase and left the Unicorns constantly under pressure. The middle order failed to respond as Abhimanyu Lamba tightened the screws with two wickets of his own. By the end of the 15th over, San Francisco had slumped to 115/8, effectively ending any realistic hopes of a comeback.
Texas Super Kings bowlers seal convincing victory
Although Brody offered some late resistance with the bat and added useful partnerships with Hammad Azam and Peter Siddle, the target remained out of reach. Adam Milne returned to finish the innings and ensure there would be no late drama. Milne ended with two wickets, while Lamba and De Silva shared six wickets between them to headline a dominant bowling performance. The Super Kings’ attack consistently exploited the conditions and never allowed the Unicorns to establish control during the chase.
The victory lifted Texas Super Kings to second place on the MLC 2026 points table and ended their brief losing streak. Ferreira’s crucial knock gave his side a defendable total, but it was De Silva’s match-winning spell that proved to be the difference as Texas completed a comprehensive 22-run triumph.
