Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently joined a number of other celebs to help roast Kevin Hart. Amid the zingers, Johnson ended up using language that caught some people off guard. Since then, one comedy veteran has come to his defense.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Was One Of Many Stars Who Took To The Stage At Netflix’s ‘The Roast Of Kevin Hart’
Johnson, also known by his ring name “The Rock,” is considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He has also pursued a lucrative career as an actor. He is known for films including The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, Moana, and the Fast & Furious films.
Recently, Johnson appeared at Netflix’s “The Roast of Kevin Hart.” The star-studded event, which was hosted by Shane Gillis, also included the likes of Tom Brady, Usher, Chelsea Handler, Lizzo, and Pete Davidson.
Johnson ended up being the last person to roast Hart before it was the comic’s own turn to hit the stage and return the favor. Initially, he appeared to flirt with Kevin’s wife, Eniko.
Johnson shared, “I want to just take a moment to give a shout-out to all the ladies up here on this dais. You all look beautiful, magnificent, sexy. You know who else looks sexy? Kevin’s wife, Eniko.”
Sheryl Underwood Defended Johnson, Saying That Roasts Run By Their Own Set Of Rules
Taking a swing at her spouse, Johnson went on to say that Eniko “deserves an Academy Award for pretending she likes to f— you.” Eventually, he quipped, “Don’t you think it’s time for Eniko to be with somebody that is bigger than her?” Continuing the joke, he added, “Just to prove it, just last week, I got a Kevin Hart tattoo on my c—. Yeah, life-size too … Eniko, I’ll show you later. Kidding. She’s already seen it!”
Things then took a turn when Johnson took a few shots at the NBA’s Draymond Green. Poking fun at his name, and possibly his own name, Dwayne claimed that adding a “D” in front of “Raymond” was lazy. He then added the letter to a slur, calling the whole deal “Dret***ed.” After repeating it, he went into how the Golden State Warriors got bounced from the playoffs. He then joked that it was time for Green to “Dretire.”
As noted by TMZ, Johnson’s use of the R-word came as a shock to many. However, he also had his defenders. Stopping by “TMZ Live,” comedy veteran and The Talk alum Sheryl Underwood felt that roasts play by their own sets of rules, saying they’re not for mainstream audiences. She shared, “It’s a way for us to talk about the issues with humor and come to some common ground. Years ago, you couldn’t say ‘m-word’ for little people, couldn’t say ‘r-word’ for the disabled … sometimes political correctness does not fit in comedy.”
