New first-party search data from Expedia Group for January to March 2026 reveals there’s a clear shift toward shorter booking windows, with travellers increasingly planning trips closer to departure than they did a year ago.
Key findings of Expedia Group’s research shows that:
- Searches in the 7 to 13-day window grew 25% YoY globally.
- The strongest YoY increases in this short-term window were in LATAM (+30%), NORAM (+25%) and APAC (+25%).
- Demand is also being shaped by timely event-driven travel, with searches to the U.S. and Canada for this summer’s big soccer tournament up 10% YoY, and Mexico up 15% YoY.
The data points to a more dynamic and less predictable booking environment in 2026, as travellers respond to specific events, regional disruption and shifting confidence levels rather than following one fixed planning pattern.
For travel agents, that means being ready to capture demand at shorter notice with competitive rates, broad supply and the ability to move quickly when clients are ready to book.
