Felix Auger-Aliassime is in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2026. In the fourth round on Sunday, Auger-Aliassime, the third seed, defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain, the 22nd seed, in five sets, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.
Three of the sets went to tiebreakers. Davidovich Fokina won the first set tiebreak 7-4 and the fourth set tiebreak 7-2. Auger-Aliassime won the second set tiebreak 8-6.
The service statistics were a major reason why Auger-Aliassime came through with the victory. Auger-Aliassime had 27 aces and four double faults and Davidovich Fokina had 10 aces and seven double faults.
The win for Auger-Aliassime is significant when you consider the fact that Davidovich Fokina won Mallorca leading up to Wimbledon. However, the fact that Auger-Aliassime took a week off leading up to Wimbledon instead of playing at Mallorca was a smart move from a preparation stand point, as he clearly had more energy than his opponent.
Auger-Aliassime’s quarterfinal match will be mighty challenging. That is because he faces the seventh seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the 24-time grand slam champion and seven-time Wimbledon champion. Auger-Aliassime and Djokovic have beaten each other once in their careers. Auger-Aliassime’s victory came at the 2022 Laver Cup in London, England. Auger-Aliassime won by a score of 6-3, 7-6 to help Team World take the title for the first time.
