A Canada-based social network is set to take on other “foreign-owned” social media platforms. Named Gander, the Canadian-built social network and mobile app was built with input from thousands of beta testers across the country, and the social media platform states that it is backed by 2,517 Canadian investors.
The platform also states that it is designed for “healthier conversation, stronger communities, with moderation guided by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”
“Canadians aren’t just looking for a better social network. They’re helping build one,” said Ben Waldman, Founder and CEO of Gander Social. ” Since May, Gander has quietly grown into a community of more than 18,000 members. On Canada Day, we move to a full national launch, inviting people across the country to join the conversation.”
The social network notes that it verifies that people who interact on the site (post, comment, etc.) are human while preserving privacy and collecting only necessary data.
Gander joins a few other Canadian social networks that have been popping up within the last year, which includes EH! a Twitter/X replacement that launched last year.
If you are looking to switch to Gander, you can download it from the App Store or Google Play, or visit gandersocial.ca. Gander will officially launch on Canada Day, July 1.
