Gayle King Details Finding Husband With Nearly-Nude Best Friend
Gayle King has no desire to get married again. That’s understandable after how her first marriage ended. She was married to William Bumpus from 1982 until 1993. They had two children together, a daughter, Kirby, and a son, William. But according to the talk show host, that’s about the only good thing that came out of her marriage.
The CBS Mornings host joined Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. Gayle King spilled new details about how her marriage ended in adultery. She recalled heading back home after a flight was canceled unexpectedly. Her husband and two children were at home and had no idea she was on her way back. “He comes flying out of the room. He’s got a towel on and he goes, ‘You can’t come in,’” she recounted on the podcast. Her husband told her that someone was in the house, but she didn’t believe him.
“I start searching the house because I didn’t believe him,” she said. “I get down and there she is, cowering behind the door in my towel, Alex. It was a nice bath sheet,” she told the podcast host.
The woman she discovered was a friend of hers, though she didn’t reveal her name. “I said, ‘I can’t believe that you are here and you are doing this,’” she remembered telling her now-former friend. Gayle King had the nanny take her kids out of the house so they wouldn’t witness the drama.
The police eventually showed up, which Gayle King said was embarrassing. The alarm in the home sent an automatic alert to the cops. But when they arrived, she said they were only interested in getting autographs.
Her Friend’s Husband Refused To Believe Affair
The first person she called after discovering her husband’s betrayal was her best friend. Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey have been friends for over 40 years. The talk show icon advised her friend to tell the woman’s husband about the affair. But he didn’t want to hear it.
“I call him, and he said, ‘She told me you would be calling. She said that you came home early unexpected, and you drew the wrong conclusion. And she told me you would call and say that you thought they were having an affair,’” Gayle King recalled. She described it as “masterful” for her husband’s mistress to give that story to hide the affair.
But Gayle King didn’t let up. She revealed dirty details to prove his wife’s unfaithfulness. “Does your wife have a pink satin pajama top? Does she have some green mint panties that go with that? And oh, by the way, Richard, there are semen stains in my bed. So am I delusional and out of touch with reality? Go f*** yourself.”
“Richard” wasn’t the man’s real name, but a name she gave him to retell the story. Despite finding her husband in the middle of an affair, Gayle King tried to make the marriage work. They divorced after she realized that she’d always wonder if he was being unfaithful.
