Sometimes, life begins to imitate art, even in the world of daytime dramas. Recently, actress Nancy Lee Grahn opened up about issues in her life that ended up resembling what was happening to her in Port Charles. This also came out as the General Hospital star had some big news for fans.
Nancy Lee Grahn Opened Up About Her Personal Life During A Recent Podcast Appearance, Even Touching On Her Future With General Hospital
Grahn is known for her career in a number of famous soaps. From 1978 to 1982, she played Beverly Wilkes on One Life to Live. Following this, she portrayed Julia Wainwright Capwell on Santa Barbara for nearly a decade.
In 1996, Grahn was cast as Alexis Davis on General Hospital, which would prove to be one of her longest-running roles. She also briefly reprised the character in the Port Charles spin-off.
Recently, Grahn appeared on the Soapy podcast, speaking with Greg Rikaart and Rebecca Budig. During the moment, she shared that fans will continue to see her as Alexis, as she recently signed a new three-year deal with the soap.
As the share continued, Grahn reflected on how one of her characters’ most emotional storylines paralleled events in her own life. At one point, she mused, “It’s interesting to me why I’ve stayed single my whole life.”
Grahn looked back at her own road to motherhood, looking back at her past relationships. She noted that one ex-boyfriend was moving out after their breakup. He asked her what he could do to help make things easier on her. The actress recalled, “I said, ‘You can put sperm in the bank,’” noting her desire to be a mother.
Grahn Also Shared That She Was Releasing An Upcoming Book, & That She Would Explore The Story Further
The ex actually donated his sperm at Grahn’s request, but the actress admitted that she ended up not using it. She continued, “I realized this is not gonna happen the way that I thought it would happen, and it wasn’t for lack of trying.”
Grahn started dating again a few months later and found that she was pregnant after the relationship ended. In 1998, she gave birth to her daughter, Katherine. When her daughter turned five, this ex, who originally didn’t want to be involved, later sued her for custody.

The actress didn’t want to divulge too much about what happened on the podcast. However, she noted that she fought her ex for around four years. However, she noted, “The court situation is a story that needs to be told,” explaining that she would explore it more in an upcoming book.
While this was happening in real life, Alexis faced a similar story on General Hospital at the time. She and Maurice Benard’s Sonny were in a custody battle over their daughter, Kristina. Reportedly, the similarities were not lost on Grahn. At the time, she claimed that she “begged” the head writer not to pursue the storyline because it was hitting too close to home.
