‘GMA’ Robin Roberts Reveals Heartwarming Reason For Absence
Robin Roberts began her career at ESPN as a sports reporter and Sportscenter host. She joined Good Morning America as a feature reporter while working at the sports network. The talented host became a full-time news anchor at GMA in 2002, eventually working her way up to a co-anchor position in 2005.
She’s one of the three main anchors alongside Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos. All three were recently MIA. Robin Roberts returned on July 27th after last appearing on the morning program on July 16. Where was she all that time?
The beloved GMA host took to social media to share a heartfelt post about her “staycation” with her wife, Amber. “Perfect ending to a restful ‘staycation’ at home in CT…celebrating the 21st anniversary of our first date!!” Robin Roberts shared a photo of two cocktails and their hands showing off their wedding rings.
“Who knew a blind date would lead to more than 2 decades as a couple?! We sure didn’t because we both cancelled the date more than once…thankfully our friends Alex and Bert were persistent that we meet,” she added in the caption.

Why She Calls Her Wife ‘Sweet Amber’
Robin Roberts announced on GMA in 2023 that she and Amber Laign were engaged. They married later that year at their home in Connecticut. Viewers noticed that Robin Roberts often referred to her love as “Sweet Amber.” She revealed where the nickname came from during a GMA segment about their engagement in 2023.
“You know people have asked me all along. But it was so organic, like much of our time together. It. It just kind of happened,” Robin Roberts began.
She continued, “When I met Amber, I was still grieving over the loss of my father and then to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 … Amber didn’t even bat an eye. She could have bailed and no one would have blamed her.”
