It’s always an eye-opening experience to hear what Canadian travel advisors have to say and that’s why each year the annual Agents’ Choice Readership Survey always includes some additional questions to tap into what those advisors have to say on a variety of subjects.

In this case, we asked travel advisors across the country: What’s something you wish everyone knew about travel advisors, and what’s the biggest misconception?

And when you ask a travel advisor what they wish everyone knew about what they do, the consensus answer is basically that they work hard and don’t get paid until their client books the trip.

But there’s more. In their responses in this year’s survey, advisors pointed out that they save their clients both money and time – even though many of those clients think that advisors are expensive and that they could do it more cheaply if they used the Internet.

Advisors would also like their customers to know that they’re not off travelling all the time, because if they were, they wouldn’t be there to look out for those clients when things go wrong and, as you all know, advisors are there 24/7 to help their travellers – and sometimes, they’re soft-hearted enough to help people who aren’t their clients – when a trip goes pear shaped.

For the full story, check out the latest issue of Canadian Travel Press.
