Gordon Ramsay opened Monday, May 19, with a straightforward fix for the start-of-week slump: pizza. Not any pizza, though. Pizza East’s new spring menu had just arrived, and Ramsay gave it a clear public backing on Instagram.
“The case of the Mondays can always be cured by pizza,” he wrote on Instagram, tagging Pizza East directly and naming four new options now on the spring menu.
Those four are bone marrow, mortadella, ricotta and pistachio, and a vegana pizza. The range is interesting. Each one pulls in a different direction.
The bone marrow pizza is the boldest pick. Bone marrow spent years as a fine-dining staple. It’s gradually crossed over into more casual settings, and pizza turns out to be a natural fit. On a pizza, it adds a deep, buttery richness. Ramsay has always gravitated toward ingredients that carry serious flavor weight, and bone marrow fits that profile exactly.
Mortadella is worth paying attention to as well. The cured meat has quietly become one of the more interesting pizza toppings on restaurant menus over the past few years. It’s softer and more delicate than pepperoni or salami. On a pizza, it tends to melt into the cheese rather than crisping up at the edges. The result is a gentler texture and a more layered bite.
Ricotta and pistachio brings something creamier and a little sweeter to the lineup. This pairing has been showing up on Italian-inspired menus for a few years now. On a thin, wood-fired crust, it tends to be the kind of option people keep coming back for.
Then there’s the vegana pizza. Most of Ramsay’s public cooking identity has been built around meat, classic technique, and bold flavors. He’s actively putting a plant-based option front and center here. For someone with his reputation, that’s a small but notable choice. Pizza East is clearly building a spring menu with room for all kinds of diners.
Pizza East has been a well-regarded London dining spot for years. Its Shoreditch roots helped it build a loyal following for a wood-fired approach and a relaxed atmosphere. Ramsay’s backing gives the spring launch some added visibility. His Instagram post reads more like a genuine tip than a polished campaign, and that tone works in its favor.
Ramsay holds multiple Michelin stars. He has spent decades on television, guiding home cooks through MasterChef and pushing professional chefs on Hell’s Kitchen. A casual nod toward a neighborhood pizza spot carries real weight at that level. These kinds of recommendations land differently. They don’t feel staged, and that’s part of the appeal.
The bone marrow might be what draws you in. The vegana option might be the unexpected favorite. Either way, Ramsay’s vote is in. Pizza East is worth the trip this spring.
