A man wanted in connection with a jewellery store robbery at Toronto’s Fairview Mall last week that seriously injured a security officer has been linked to at least six other bank and jewellery store heists in Toronto and Quebec, police said in announcing an “enhanced”

    $25,000 reward

for information leading to his arrest.

On the morning of April 21, Toronto police responded to reports of a shooting at the mall at Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East.

They reported that a male suspect entered a jewellery store and stole some merchandise, and that a member of the mall security team who confronted the suspect was shot and later transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect fled in a white van that was later recovered a few blocks away. The suspect then fled that area in a black Honda Accord.

The suspect, described as a white male wearing a grey hoodie, grey pants, a blue baseball cap, a white medical mask and black shoes, was

    identified the same day

as Kyle Douglas Prouse, 53, of Montreal. Police said he was wanted in connection with a break and enter investigation in Durham Region in August 2023.

However, on April 27, Inspector Kristy Smith of the Toronto police hold-up squad said Prouse is also wanted for a string of robberies and break and enters at banks and jewellery stores across Ontario and Quebec dating back to 2023.

In addition to the Fairview Mall robbery, they include an April 16 bank robbery in the city’s west end; a March 17 bank robbery near Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East in Scarborough; a Jan. 19 jewellery store robbery at Brimley Road and Progress Avenue in Scarborough; a May 2025 jewellery store robbery in Brossard, Que.; a March 2024 jewellery store robbery at the Scarborough Town Centre; and a September 2023 jewellery store robbery at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto.

TPS and Crime Stoppers have announced an enhanced cash reward of up to $25K for information leading to the arrest of Kyle Douglas Prouse, wanted in connection with the April 21 robbery and shooting at Fairview Mall.

    Video shown by police during

    the press conference

showed the suspect in each of the robberies, often carrying what looked like a handgun.

“This is an individual who has demonstrated a pattern of escalating and dangerous behaviour,” said Smith. “We are concerned about the risk he poses to public safety, and we are asking for the public’s help to locate him.”

She added: “If you see Kyle Douglas Prouse, do not approach him. Call 911 immediately. If you have information, no matter how small it may seem, please contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.”

Sean Sportun, chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers, then announced an enhanced cash reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of Prouse. The reward is time-sensitive and will remain in effect until June 30. “So if you have information, now is the time to come forward,” said Sportun.

He added: “And to Mr. Prouse, if you are listening, my message to you is direct. With today’s announcement, your world just got smaller. Do the right thing, contact a lawyer, and turn yourself in.”
