Netflix is expanding the Hit Man universe, with a television series based on the popular film starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona now in the works.
Powell co-wrote and produced the film alongside co-writer and director Richard Linklater. According to a report from Deadline, both will executive produce the potential series at AGC Television and Powell’s own BarnStorm Productions label.
The series is being written by Stephen Falk (You’re the Worst), who will also executive produce alongside Dan Cohen, Stuart Ford, Miguel A. Palos Jr., and Lourdes Diaz.
While details of the series are being kept under wraps for now, it will likely follow the premise of the film about an unassuming police contractor, a college professor, who uses elaborate disguises and develops different characters to pose as a fake hitman and expose suspects looking to get someone killed. Powell used several different disguises throughout the film, and a television series would most likely follow a similar path.
Hit Man premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2023, before being acquired by Netflix at the Toronto Film Festival. It hit the streaming giant in June 2024, receiving strong reviews and becoming a huge hit for the streamer. This will mark the latest Netflix film-turned-series, after XO, Kitty (spinoff of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy) and the upcoming Extraction series.
