The stakes could not be higher as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) gear up for a blockbuster Qualifier 1 clash in IPL 2026 at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday. With a direct place in the final on the line, both teams will be desperate to avoid mistakes in what promises to be one of the biggest matches of the season.

However, alongside the excitement surrounding this heavyweight encounter, weather forecasts have raised concerns about possible rain interruptions during the evening. With showers predicted around toss time, fans are now wondering what would happen if the all-important playoff clash fails to produce a result.

IPL rules for washed-out Qualifier 1 matches

Unlike the IPL final, there is no reserve day allocated for Qualifier 1, Eliminator, or Qualifier 2 in IPL 2026. If rain prevents the match from being completed, the tournament playing conditions clearly state that the team finishing higher in the league-stage standings will automatically progress to the next stage.

That means if the RCB vs GT match is completely washed out in Dharamsala, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will qualify directly for the IPL 2026 final because they finished at the top of the points table with a superior net run rate. Gujarat Titans, despite finishing level on 18 points with RCB, would then move to Qualifier 2, where they would face the winner of the Eliminator for another shot at reaching the final.

Officials will still try every possible option to force a result. Extra time is available for playoff matches, and even a five-over contest per side is enough to constitute a game. If weather conditions allow only a very limited window, the match officials can also opt for a one-over eliminator or even a standalone Super Over to determine the winner.

Why RCB hold the advantage over GT?

RCB earned the crucial top position after edging Gujarat Titans on net run rate at the end of the league stage. Both teams finished with 18 points from 14 matches, but Bengaluru’s stronger overall performances across the tournament gave them the all-important advantage heading into the playoffs.

That league-stage consistency could now prove decisive if rain plays spoilsport in Dharamsala. RCB have entered the playoffs with momentum despite suffering a heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their final league game. Rajat Patidar, Krunal Pandya and Venkatesh Iyer showed encouraging batting form in that match, while the return of Phil Salt has further strengthened their top order.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans have looked equally dangerous, powered by the sensational opening duo of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Their dominant 89-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final league fixture underlined their title credentials, with Jos Buttler and Rashid Khan also peaking at the right time. Interestingly, both sides are evenly matched historically as well. RCB and GT are tied 4-4 overall in head-to-head contests and also shared victories against each other during the IPL 2026 league stage.

Dharamsala weather forecast for RCB vs GT Qualifier 1

Weather forecasts suggest that rain could remain a concern ahead of the match at the HPCA Stadium. Reports indicate cloud cover between 50%, while there is a significant probability of rain during the evening hours. There are chances of showers around toss time, though the likelihood of persistent rain is expected to reduce as the night progresses. Temperatures are likely to hover around 21-23°C, creating relatively cool playing conditions compared to most IPL venues.

Light winds may assist seam bowlers early in the innings, while dew could become a factor later in the game if a full match takes place. For now, fans of both franchises will be hoping the weather clears in time because a contest of this magnitude deserves to be decided on the field rather than by league-stage rankings.
