The Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons confirmed that Dhoni has not travelled with the squad for the away fixture. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter remains in Chennai, where he is undergoing rehabilitation for a calf injury sustained during the pre-season camp.
Dhoni is yet to make an appearance in IPL 2026, and his prolonged absence has left a noticeable gap in both leadership presence and finishing firepower within the CSK lineup. Providing an update on Dhoni’s fitness, Simons maintained a cautious tone, emphasizing that the decision to return rests entirely with the player.
“Updates on MS Dhoni are way above my pay grade. He’s not with us in Delhi, but he is improving. He will know when he is ready,” Simons said, suggesting that the team management is not rushing the process.
Dhoni had earlier travelled with the squad for matches against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, which had sparked speculation about a comeback.
