Jennifer Lopez is heading back to rom-com territory with an unlikely co-star. Netflix confirmed that Office Romance, starring Lopez and Brett Goldstein, premieres this Friday, June 6.
Netflix’s official Instagram account called out Lopez and Goldstein’s “first on-camera meeting” as the centerpiece of the film’s launch campaign. Two days out from the premiere, that’s the angle the streamer is leading with. It makes sense. These two have never shared a screen before, and the pairing is genuinely surprising.
Lopez doesn’t need much introduction in this genre. She made The Wedding Planner in 2001 and Maid in Manhattan the following year. Romantic comedies have been part of her career for over two decades. She starred in Marry Me in 2022 alongside Owen Wilson. She knows how these stories work, and she tends to be good at them.
Goldstein is coming from a very different direction. He broke through as Roy Kent on Ted Lasso. The show ran on Apple TV+ from 2020 to 2023. Roy Kent became one of the more beloved TV characters of that run, and Goldstein earned multiple Emmy nominations for the role. He’s since stepped into bigger projects, including a part in the Marvel film Thunderbolts* in 2025. But a romantic lead opposite Jennifer Lopez on Netflix is its own kind of career milestone.
That contrast is what Netflix is clearly banking on. The “first on-camera meeting” framing treats the casting itself as the story. There’s something genuinely interesting about watching two performers with such different tones try to find the same frequency.
Office Romance is one of Netflix’s more notable summer releases this year. The title tells you the basic shape of things: two people, one workplace, presumably some complications along the way. Beyond that, Netflix hasn’t released much. There’s no detailed synopsis circulating and no major plot reveals out there. The marketing has focused almost entirely on the pairing.
That’s probably a deliberate choice. The rom-com genre is crowded on streaming platforms. New entries show up constantly. An unexpected cast combination is one of the few things that can actually cut through that noise.
Lopez brings warmth and an easy confidence that plays well in this genre. Goldstein tends to be drier and more understated. There’s real potential in how those two styles work against each other. That’s the bet Office Romance is making.
Streaming premieres move fast. There’s no slow theatrical run to build word-of-mouth over weeks. Netflix will get a read on this one quickly.
