Sophia Jensen of Edmonton, Alberta won two medals at the 2026 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznan, Poland. She finished first in the women’s C1 500 metres on Saturday, and silver in the women’s C1 200 metres on Sunday. Team Canada won a third medal at the World Championships as Canadian Olympic gold medalist Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Sloan MacKenzie of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Zoe Wojtyk of Ottawa, Ontario, and Elizabeth Desrosiers-McArthur of Lac-Beauport, Quebec placed third in the women’s C4 500 metres. Of the three medals Canada won, only the women’s C1 200 metres is an Olympic event.
In the women’s C1 200 metres, Jensen had a time of 44.9 seconds. Liudmyla Luzan of Ukraine won the gold medal with a time of 44.4 seconds. Nevin Harrison of the United States won the bronze medal wth a time of 45.04 seconds, Jensen reached the podium by 0.77 seconds over Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboy of Cuba, who had a fourth place time of 45.67 seconds.
Jensen’s gold medal winning time in the C1 500 metres was 2:00.78 seconds. Vincent won the gold medal in the women’s C1 200 metres and teamed up with MacKenzie to win the bronze medal in the women’s C2 500 metres at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The silver medal for Jensen will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
