Former Full House co-stars Jodie Sweetin and John Stamos have a large age gap between them. Yet, she notes that they have managed to stay sober because of their immensely close bond. Keep reading for more on what she had to say about her relationship with John.
Jodie Sweetin & John Stamos Go Back Almost 4 Decades
Full House premiered in 1987 and became an immediate hit. The family-friendly sitcom had heart, great writing, and Blackie from General Hospital. Fans swooned over John Stamos and his dark good looks, so when he was cast as Jesse Katsopolis, everyone was waiting to see how it would be. Of course, him on a goody-goody television show was questionable, but he excelled. Alongside him was Jodie Sweetin as his precocious niece, Stephanie Tanner. They starred in the hit ABC series for eight seasons, until 1992, and then returned for the Netflix reboot, Fuller House.
Amid all of this, they both faced addiction issues. John has been open about how the demise of his first marriage to Rebecca Romijn caused him to spiral. As for Jodie, she was addicted to alcohol, cocaine, crystal meth, and ecstasy, starting at the age of 14. However, she sobered up in 2011, with her co-star following her in 2015. Jodie noted that they have been there for each other along the way:
“John and I really, really connected in a lot of ways over [being sober]. He presented me with an award several years back for some of the work that I’d done.”
The forty-four-year-old mother of two added:
“We have been there to celebrate each other’s big successes and milestones, and I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery.”
Obviously, it has been anything but easy for Jodie Sweetin and John Stamos. Yet, they have both worked very hard and found their happiness. He is married to Caitlin McHugh, and Jodie tied the knot in 2022 to Mescal Wasilewski.
A Happy Family
One thing about the Full House cast is that they have always remained a tight-knit family even when cameras stopped rolling. They banded together when Bob Saget passed away, and Jodie Sweetin and John Stamos clearly have united on the sobriety front. After fans learned how they have relied on one another to stay clean, they loved hearing this. It gave them so much hope regarding a dark matter:
- Glad that they’re both doing well and working their program.
- Jodie Sweetin . This is the example we all should follow . People who fell in their hopelessness hole of drugs and fought it and were able to stand for themselves
- Good for them.
