Álvarez has already begun following Atlético’s individualized training programme for international players ahead of officially joining preseason. Although he is still enjoying the final days of his vacation, the Argentine forward is following a personalized fitness plan. He remains in contact with the club and is expected to report as scheduled.
Atlético’s complaint changed the calculus
One major factor in Barcelona’s withdrawal was Atlético’s formal complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation, alongside an approach to FIFA, over alleged unauthorized contact between Barcelona and Álvarez’s representatives – a practice generally known as tapping up.
