The Saskatchewan Roughriders were without KeeSean Johnson in practice on Wednesday, according to the team’s official injury report. He is dealing with a back injury.

The 29-year-old made 10 catches for a season-high 146 yards and one touchdown in last week’s 28-24 win over the Toronto Argonauts. The native of Mountain View, Calif. is the team’s leading receiver, having caught 77 passes for 990 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

“After talking with the doctors, there’s just a couple of guys that were a little banged up, but nothing long-term,” head coach Corey Mace told reporters in Regina. “We’ll see. Nothing’s out of the equation even for this week, just kind of reassess maybe in the next 24 to 48 (hours).”

The six-foot-one, 201-pound target was originally a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He joined the Roughriders as a free agent in 2024 and has since made 219 receptions for 2,895 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named All-CFL in 2025.

Kian Schaffer-Baker and Samuel Emilus, Saskatchewan’s two other leading receivers, remain on the six-game injured list.

Other non-participants in practice included linebackers Nick Wiebe (knee) and Josh Woods (ankle), and defensive backs Kerfalla Exumé (ankle) and Marcus Sayles (quad).

Running back A.J. Ouellette (knee) was limited, as was receiver Johnny Johnson III (head). Fullback Albert Awachie (ankle) and defensive back Jaxon Ford (ankle) were full participants.

When asked if Ouellette was getting closer to making his return, Mace answered affirmatively.

“I made sure I spent a lot of time there just watching his indie,” he said. “(Ouellette) looked pretty damn good, so we’ll see.”

The 31-year-old ball-carrier has missed Saskatchewan’s last five regular-season games. He’s rushed 63 times for 288 yards over four outings this season.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been active on social media ahead of this weekend’s Labour Day Classic in a clear attempt to stoke the flames of the CFL’s prairie rivalry.

The target? Regina-style pizza, which is thick, cut into squares, and topped heavily with deli meat.

When asked about Winnipeg’s posts, Mace pushed back in favour of the local delicacy.

“I don’t know how you hate on pizza,” said the veteran coach. “One of the first few meals that I had in Regina was Regina-style pizza. As you can tell, I’ve probably had more than one slice.”

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (7-4) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-5) at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday, September 6 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. Last week, the Blue Bombers got a one-sided upset victory over the Montreal Alouettes, while the Roughriders got a come-from-behind win over the Toronto Argonauts to snap a two-game losing skid.

The weather forecast in Regina calls for a high of 24 degrees and a 60 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the U.S., and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 620 CKRM in Regina or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.
