Kelly Clarkson has been on television one way or another since she won American Idol in 2002. She began hosting her own daytime talk show in 2019. The Kelly Clarkson Show was an immediate hit, especially the popular Kellyoke segment, where she performed cover songs from all genres. She announced in early 2026 that the show’s current 7th season will be its last. Fans were heartbroken. But now she’s changed course and announced a surprising return to TV. Keep reading for all the details.
Kelly Clarkson Ends Talk Show
2025 was a tough year for Kelly Clarkson and her family. Her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, passed away in August after a battle with cancer. At the time, the singer was in the middle of a Las Vegas residency. She postponed several shows so she could help their two children, River and Remy, deal with the loss.
Along with Brandon Blackstock’s former stepmother, Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson also missed time filming for The Voice. She returned to the singing competition for Season 30, which filmed at the same time as Season 29, for which Reba McEntire was a coach.
The grief and busy schedule were too much for the American Idol winner. Something had to go and she chose to end her daytime talk show to spend more time with her children. The surprising move came just two years after production of the talk show moved from Los Angeles to New York City to accommodate Kelly Clarkson relocating to the East Coast with her children.
Her Surprise Return To TV Amid Talk Show Ending
Kelly Clarkson had already filmed Season 29 of The Voice when she announced the end of her daytime talk show. Since she left the program for more family time, many fans thought they might not see the singer again for a while. However, that’s not the case.

NBC announced this week that Kelly Clarkson will return to The Voice this fall for Season 30. She reunites with previously announced returning coach, Adam Levine.
The Voice Announces Third Coach For Season 30
Season 29 of The Voice was different in several ways. One of the biggest changes was having three coaches instead of four. It looks as if the show continues that format for Season 30. The show announced who will be joining Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine for the new season.
Country singer Riley Green makes his debut on The Voice this fall as the third coach. The news was a bigger surprise than Kelly Clarkson’s return and fans loved it. They took to the comments to share their excitement:
- “Oh heck yes I’m ready for this”
- “Welp, looks like I’ll be watching the Voice again after several years!”
- “oh this is insane”
- “Very cool, congrats! Will you still have time to sleep, like ever?”
- “Weird way to ask me to audition but yes”
It sounds like Team Riley already has an advantage over Team Kelly and Team Adam. Tune in this fall to see which coach comes out on top.
