Kelly Ripa Recovering After Painful Surgery
Kelly Ripa’s dentist advised her for years that she needed dental surgery to fix an ongoing problem. However, she didn’t want to take time off from the daytime talk show. She never imagined she would still be hosting LIVE for 25 years and counting. She finally had the gum graft surgery this summer.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, gum graft surgery is used to treat receding gums. A ‘donor’ gum tissue is removed, usually from the roof of the mouth, and placed where the gum is receding. The surgery can be extremely painful.
A lot of things can cause receding gums. But in Kelly Ripa’s case, it was from brushing her teeth too much. The talk show host is still recovering, but seemed in good spirits. She showed off her smile while going makeup-free.

Kelly Ripa took a break from LIVE with Kelly and Mark. However, she didn’t take a break from her podcast. She launched Let’s Talk Off Camera in 2023. The production company she started with Mark Consuelos co-produces the podcast with SiriusXM. The Milojo production company is currently working with Lifetime to revive the defunct soap All My Children.
As LIVE viewers know, the canceled ABC soap opera has a special meaning for Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. It’s where they met and fell in love in 1995. 30 years later, they’re still happily married with three adult children.
Kelly Ripa promoted the podcast on social media. She took to Instagram Stories to share a video from her bed. But she wasn’t alone. The podcast’s producers, Jan Schillay and Albert Bianchini, joined her. “I am so sleepy. I’m extra comfortable today because Jan, Albert, and I are in bed together,” she said. “That’s right, dear listeners. It’s gone there.”
The video was a paid partnership with mattress giant Sleep Number. “We are in bed together, and we are happy as clams. We are so comfortable.” Kelly Ripa repeated. She looked relaxed and comfy in an oversized sweater and jeans. The television personality went makeup-free and showed off her smile.
However, she filmed a lot of podcast content before the surgery. So, it’s not clear if the video promo was filmed before or after. She’ll be back on LIVE with Kelly and Mark for the show’s 39th season premiere on Tuesday, September 8.
