British actress Lily James (Pam & Tommy) is set to lead the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios horror movie Seasons (originally titled My Wife and I Bought a Ranch), according to Deadline. It’s the latest film from writer-director Drew Hancock, who was behind New Line’s dark thriller Companion last year.
Hancock will direct the film from his own screenplay, which is based on a short horror story by Matt and Harrison Query that first appeared on Reddit before going viral. Seasons follows a husband and wife who buy their dream ranch, only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits, and survival means submitting to disturbing rituals every season.
Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce the film for 21 Laps, alongside Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s Jason Blum and Michael Clear, 12:01 Films’ Scott Glassgold, and Dan Cohen.
James most recently played the founder of Bumble in 20th Century Studios/Hulu’s Swiped and starred opposite Riz Ahmed last summer in David Mackenzie’s thriller Relay. She also has several projects in the pipeline, including starring alongside Chris Hemsworth and Teresa Palmer in Amazon MGM’s upcoming submarine actioner Subversion, Guy Nattiv’s psychological drama Harmonia, and Takashi Miike‘s Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo for Neon.
Additionally, James is starring alongside Pierce Brosnan and producing the upcoming reboot of Cliffhanger, which is set for release later this year if distribution problems are sorted.
