As working actors, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos had a lot of help raising their three kids. She shared a funny story on LIVE a while back about the babysitter’s reaction to Mark Consuelos’ parenting skills. Now, Kelly Ripa shared her own questionable parenting choices.
On a recent episode of LIVE with Kelly and Mark, the mom of three recalled taking her daughter and several nieces to a tourist attraction in New York City that’s loved by children and feared by parents. The American Girl dolls came out in 1986 but became a sensation in 1998 after Mattel bought the company. Each doll represents a piece of history and comes with a book detailing her life story.
The first American Girl Doll store opened in Chicago. One opened on New York City’s iconic Fifth Avenue in 2003. But it’s more than just a store. With a salon and cafe, the American Girl Doll store is an experience. Kelly Ripa visited the store years ago with her sister-in-law.
“There was, like, there were six little girls sitting around this table. They slide in high chairs next to you,” Kelly Ripa recalled. “Your sister and I had about 19 glasses of champagne. Just to get through it,” she confessed to her husband.

She described it as one of her favorite memories.
LIVE Hosts Have Been Sober Since 2017
Kelly Ripa went a little too hard on the alcohol at the American Doll store years ago. But she’s laid off the booze since then. The LIVE hosts have been sober since 2017.
Kelly Ripa shared the reasons why in a 2020 interview with Parade magazine for her 50th birthday. “I don’t feel 50. I feel great and I don’t feel any different than I felt 10 years ago,” she said at the time. She revealed that part of it was from giving up drinking.

“We did both quit drinking almost three years ago. Not that we were sitting around drinking day and night, but I think that there is something about like clean living—maybe that’s what did it. Maybe that’s the difference,” she said in the 2020 interview.
