LIVE host Kelly Ripa and World News Tonight host David Muir have been friends for years. He was a guest on the ABC talk show this week. His longtime friend became “very concerned” about him. Keep reading to find out why.
LIVE Kelly Ripa ‘Very Concerned’ For David Muir
David Muir took over as anchor of World News Tonight from Diane Sawyer in 2014. Kelly Ripa was a huge fan of his reporting. Their friendship began nearly a decade ago when she tracked down his email address. He’s a regular guest on LIVE with Kelly and Mark. He even co-hosted before Mark Consuelos joined the talk show full-time.
David Muir was a guest on the talk show on Friday to promote the network’s July 4th coverage. He revealed that ABC plans to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with wall-to-wall, 24-hour coverage. Kelly Ripa was shocked to hear this. “What! Shouldn’t you be sleeping right now, I’m very concerned,” she said.
The longtime anchor was unfazed by the crazy schedule. “Saturday morning 5 a.m. I’m going to be live on top of the Walt Disney building overlooking the Hudson River,” he replied. If Kelly Ripa was concerned about David Muir working for 24 hours, wait until she finds out about the forbidden landmark he climbed for the special coverage.

David Muir Climbs Forbidden Landmark
The entire country was transfixed earlier this week when two daredevil climbers reached the very top of the Empire State Building. The climbers, later Angela Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov, unfurled a banner promoting love and got engaged. They eventually returned to solid ground and were arrested.
David Muir climbed another New York City monument, but he wasn’t arrested. He was given access to a forbidden part of the Statue of Liberty. While visitors can climb parts of the statue, the torch has been off-limits since 1916. The ABC News anchor filmed a segment to kick off ABC’s 24-hour broadcast at 10 PM Eastern on July 3. The “longest commercial broadcast in history” continues on July 4 with Ryan Seacrest hosting Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash at 8 PM Eastern.
David Muir was moved by the experience of touring the Statue of Liberty. “One of the things you notice right away up here, when you’re standing on the torch at the Statue of Liberty — which they’ve given so few people access to — are the winds up here. You can actually feel the Statue of Liberty swaying with the wind, and architects designed it that way — with that purpose in mind to withstand the weather all these years,” he told viewers.
Kelly Ripa was “concerned” for David Muir reporting for 24 hours straight, but that’s part of his job. Finally, don’t miss ABC’s July 4th coverage all day on Saturday.
