“Love Island USA” contestant Alannah Keyser is facing backlash online after a video of her appearing to use the N-word has gone viral. Fans are calling for her removal from the show as she’s now the second season 8 cast member to be wrapped up in controversy. However, Alannah’s dad is defending her against the chaos, telling the media that his daughter isn’t a racist because they have a diverse group of friends.
Speaking with TMZ, Stephane Keyser said that “Love Island” fans’ assumptions about his daughter are wrong. In fact, he said that Alannah is an “educated sweetheart” and would never behave in a racist manner. Continuing, Stephane said that he and his family have always been surrounded by people of diverse backgrounds, so the backlash Alannah is receiving is out of order.
The Blast reported on the controversy yesterday. Shortly after Alannah was revealed to be one of the Casa Amor bombshells, a video of her appearing to use the N-word was shared online. Additional screenshots of her allegedly using racist language on social media were also shared; however, the validity of those has yet to be confirmed.
‘Love Island’ Fans Blast Alannah Keyser’s Dad For Defending Her Against Backlash

If Stephane thought his defense of his daughter would cause people to have a change of heart, he’d better think again. On Reddit, users are slamming him too, calling him ignorant for believing his “educated” daughter couldn’t be in the wrong.
“Guess what, Dad? Racists can be sweet to those they care about AND get an education. That doesn’t make them not racist, guy,” someone wrote.
Another user chimed in, saying, “Yes, I hate the belief that most racists are uneducated. It is classist and a lie. It is not a progressive way of thinking. It is dangerous for Black folks as well. The educated have the capabilities to be just as anti-black, if not worse.”
‘Love Island’ Fans Call Out Producers For Allegedly Not Doing Their Research On Cast Members
love island producers need to vet their contestants better bc how is it that every year one of them gets outted as a racist & removed from the show within 1 hour of the episode

And Alannah’s dad isn’t the only one facing heat. “Love Island” producers are also in the hot seat, as fans speak out about the show’s infiltration of problematic contestants.
“Legitimate question because I’ve never seen an episode of ‘Love Island’ – Do the producers not vet any of these people? Feels like every season there’s a person getting booted for being racist, and I read about it on the news or here.”
On X, another user shared a similar statement, writing, “Love Island producers need to vet their contestants better because how is it that every year one of them gets outted as a racist [and] removed from the show within one hour of the episode.”
Season 8 Contestant Apologizes For Past Use Of Racial Slur After Being Kicked From Show
Controversy is never far from the “Love Island” contestants. Season 8 OG Vasana Montgomery was booted from the show before even appearing after a video of her using the N-word resurfaced. She apologized for her actions; however, it was too late.
“I wanted to address a couple of videos from my teen years that have recently resurfaced. In those videos, I used a racial slur. There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry,” she said, per NBC News. “I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words. I take full responsibility for what I said and understand why it has hurt and upset people.”
Season 7 Removed Two Cast Members Over Problematic Past Posts
A year before her, “Love Island” removed Yulissa Escobar within the first three episodes after similar videos of her using racial slurs were shared online. She, too, apologized for her words on social media, saying that she used the words “ignorantly” and now understands the impact it could have on people of color.
“But that doesn’t take away from how wrong it was. The truth is, I didn’t know better then, but I do now. I’ve taken the time to reflect, to learn, and to grow from that moment,” she said.
A month later, in July 2025, Cierra Ortega was also removed from the show after past social media posts of hers using slurs resurfaced. She apologized to the “Asian community” with her post, saying she was “deeply, truly, honestly so sorry” for the hurt she caused.
“I had no idea that the word held as much pain as much harm, and came with the history that it did, or I never would have used it. I had no ill intention when I was using it. But that’s absolutely no excuse, because intent doesn’t excuse ignorance,” she added.
It’s still unclear whether Alannah will be booted from the season 8 cast; however, if producers remain consistent, her removal should be announced on the show in the coming days.
