Recently, Law & Order fans learned that the Organized Crime spin-off was coming to an end. Since then, fans have been wondering if this was really the last time that they’ve seen Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler. Recently, SVU star Mariska Hargitay weighed in on the possibility of him appearing on the show. This also comes out after she previously shared her reaction to the spin-off show’s cancellation.
Mariska Hargitay & Christopher Meloni Acted Alongside Each Other For 12 Years On Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Hargitay is known to many for playing Olivia Benson on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Having played the part since 1999, her character is considered one of the longest-running of all time in American primetime dramas.
Meanwhile, Christopher Meloni, who also played NYPD Detective Elliot Stabler on the show, also led the spin-off, Law & Order: Organized Crime. Hargitay and Meloni worked alongside each other as Benson and Stabler for around 12 years before he left for the new show.
As previously reported, Hargitay showed her support for Meloni in an Instagram post where he announced the show’s cancellation. Taking to the comments, she wrote, “P4L,” which was taken as “Partners for Life.”
Hargitay wasn’t the only one to comment on Meloni’s post, either. Many fans expressed hope that Meloni could still make appearances on Special Victims Unit.
Law & Order: SVU Is Expected To Return With Season 28
Since then, Hargitay has spoken with Extra, noting that she wasn’t ruling against Meloni making guest appearances on the show. As she shared, “Somehow, some way, yes.” She also expressed her reaction to the cancellation, sharing, “I saw it and burst out in tears because it has — just like he said, and he was so beautiful and open — been a great ride, and it has been so beautiful and intimate and such a huge part of his life and was life-changing for him.”
The actress continued this idea with Deadline, sharing, “That is a very heartening thing for both of us, that our relationship was so iconic culturally and that Benson and Stabler still resonates is deeply meaningful to me and Chris, and I’m sure you know, are very, very close.”

The actress continued, “He’s a very in-demand actor, so we’ll see if the schedule is lined up. I love Chris, and I love acting with Chris, so I’m always open to working with him and getting Benson and Stabler together. They’re happiest when they’re together.”
Of course, any possible appearance from Meloni is dependent on various factors. In addition to Meloni’s availability, there are also the issues of the stories being told on SVU and whether it would make sense to feature his character. For the time being, however, the series has been renewed for Season 28. That said, an official announcement date has not been shared at this time.
