The World Cup has been at the top of everyone’s minds for weeks as countries come together for the love of the sport. However, Mark Consuelos had an extra special experience at the game he attended. Keep reading to learn more about the sentimental moment he shared with his brother.
Mark Consuelos Lost His Father
It hasn’t been an easy year for Mark. In fact, just earlier this year, he shared that he lost his father, Saul, on March 23. Saul was 86 years old when he passed away. Mark went on his talk show, Live with Kelly and Mark, to share that his father “passed away peacefully,” after a long battle with illness.
Mark told loving stories of his father, including that he was very interested in his education and that he came here from Mexico
“He came here from Mexico in his early teens, he immigrated here from Mexico. He served his country for 30 years. Ended up at Special Operations Command in Tampa. This young kid from Mexico just got his education from the navy. Was always going to school. Was brilliant. Got his Masters while I was a kid.”
Now, just months later, Mark got to share a very special connection with his brother and his father in Mexico at the World Cup.
Reconnecting With His Father
In a recent clip on Live with Kelly and Mark, Mark and Kelly Ripa talk about a super special moment. Not only did he have “such great seats” at the Mexico-England World Cup game this weekend, but he shared a special moment with his late father.
Of course, Mark was already thankful to be at the game, as his dad was such a Mexico fan.
“It was such a meaningful thing, just as a football fan to witness this historical match,” he shares. “But my dad, you know, he passed away in March, and he was such a Mexico fan, and he would be so happy.”
However, the connection doesn’t start there. After an hour-long rain delay, Mark and his brother got an unexpected visitor.
“We were just sitting there in the stadium, and the rain stopped and all of a sudden this little butterfly flew on my arm and then…” Mark says before Kelly finishes his thought, saying “And flew on your brother’s arm.”
Mark instantly knew that it was his father.
“That’s my dad,” he says.

After chatting with others, Kelly says that “there are no butterflies there in Azteca.” Making this experience even more meaningful for the brothers.
“We felt him there,” Mark says.
They shared the clip on social media, showing fans not only the butterfly, but also fun videos from the whole game. It truly seems like Mark had an incredible time in Mexico, honoring his father.
