We’re getting a look at Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the first trailer for Apple TV’s upcoming meta comedy series Brothers.
The eight-episode series follows McConaughey and Harrelson, who play fictionalised versions of themselves whose friendship is thrown into chaos when they uncover a decades-old secret: they might actually be brothers.
It’s based on a long-time rumour that the real-life best friends and former True Detective co-stars might be related. Back in 2023, Harrelson told Esquire magazine, “I don’t know because we haven’t done the testing. But I can say that there’s a lot of almost insane coincidences. His mom had a relationship with my dad right around the time he was conceived. That seems like a big coincidence.”
Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe, and Holland Taylor round out the ensemble cast. In addition to starring, McConaughey and Harrelson also serve as executive producers alongside showrunner Lee Eisenberg (The Office, Good Boys).
Synopsis:
After Woody’s daughter’s engagement falls apart, he loads up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch. But what begins as a healing getaway quickly spirals when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac (Taylor), accidentally lets slip a long-buried secret that the two friends might actually be brothers. As Woody turns the ranch upside down in pursuit of the truth, Matthew finds himself juggling an entirely different identity crisis: a potential run for Governor of Texas. The result is a heartfelt, chaotic, and wildly funny story about friendship, family, fame, and the messy line between myth and reality.
Brothers will premiere on Apple TV with the first two episodes on September 23rd, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through November 4th.
